Greetings lovers of football:

I have been reading some of your posts here in the Football Forum and have seen how some of you have been doing very well. I have been a fan off-and-on for quite some time now but I do not know enough to make an informed bet as of yet. Perhaps I can learn from many of you.

While I am at a decided disadvantage in knowledge about the sport I hope to be able to eventually provide some perspective. Sometimes an outsider can bring up points not thought of when intrenched with a particular sport.

I only offer my record in the American Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). I knew very little about the league a month ago however I was able to use human nature in grinding out a 14-4 record in the playoffs so far. Perhaps I can offer some insight to your sport as well. It will probably be a while before I can offer my own predictions. Perhaps my questions will have some of you affirming your picks.

Please feel free to correct any misperceptions I may have. Since I am new to betting on football (but not new to the sport) I feel I can learn a lot from all of you.

Thanks in advance.

ask away if you happen upon something you don't know.

soccer needs a lot of patience and practise, and you got to get some cable to watch the games as well, if you haven't got one already, football is much more a feel and know how game, than a stats and numbers one.

best of luck.

Soccer is a tough sport to handicap since the game is so psychological in its nature (like most sports but I believe in soccer its more). It can be financially rewarding but most importantly once you get to watching the game, you'll find it very entertaining particularly the Champions League.

Good luck

BigGames- Welcome. There are a lot of sharp people that post here and the two above just gave you a few good pieces of advice. I have some I'd like to pass on. I especially agree with A2345 about the Champion's League. I have been following sports since I could walk and the Champion's League is one of the most exciting, prestigious and fun events I have ever seen.

Go to Bet365.com and read their soccer rules. They have a very good section that explains the "Asian Handicap" and some other things. I think you should have as many "outs" as you can. Line shopping is always important but even more so in soccer because those 1/2 goals on sides or totals are huge. Watch the schedule closely because some teams will now have to play 2 games a week if they're in the Champion's League or UEFA Cup. Read as many soccer sites as you can and watch the soccer stuff on Fox Sports World if you can get it.

On a lighter note, what do you guys think of Michelle Lissel on Fox Sports News? I think she's definitely "hit it" material.

Thanks to all who have given advice. I'll have to go down to the George & Dragon restaurant to catch the full slate of games. I'm sure I'll get plenty of opinions while there also.
